Drop Cloth Curtains

Just in time for spring, you can change out your dark, heavy curtain panels for something light and airy that lets in the sunshine and blows in the breeze.  I have been reading about this idea on other blogs for a while now but just tried it myself for the first time.  I love the look especially since we are finally getting some sunshine these days!
So... I made curtains out of a painter's drop cloth.  The texture and flecks of color in the cotton are beautiful.  I think it looks especially good with the rustic wooden frames I have hanging in that room, and the distressed photo frames I made for the mantle over the weekend.
Here's what I did.  I went to Lowe's and bought a 4' x 15'  drop cloth for $13.98.  Then I cut it in half.  I could have hemmed the cut edges and hung the panel from clips, but I have zero sewing skills and even a straight hem is a little overwhelming.  So instead, I folded the raw edge over about 5" and hot glued some cream colored ball fringe over the raw edge to cover it up.  Then I hung it from the curtain clips.  Done.  The ball fringe was 50% off at JoAnn Fabrics and cost $8.10.  So the total cost of this project was about $22.  Now for some photos!  Here's a close-up of the curtains, so you can get a sense of the texture and color flecky stuff.
Drop cloth curtains, hanging in our TV room.

A shot of the whole room, do you think the textural elements are working together here?  Doesn't this photo make it look like the brown sectional is swallowing up the room?  I can't wait to move it in the basement, it is much too large for this space but will be just perfect down there.
Will someone teach me how to photograph open windows?

And finally, the basement is also progressing nicely.  The ceiling is up in the closet and the nail holes are filled.  It needs a final coat of paint and then I will post a few photos.  Last night Kevin installed 3 of the 5 speakers (the last 2 go in the ceiling) and we are pleased as punch with them.  All of the AV wiring for the basement runs through a large pipe that Kevin installed in the ceiling.  So, all of the "boxes" (TiVo, tuner, Wii, DVD, etc.) are on a rack in the closet and connect to the TV via wiring in the ceiling.  So there are no wires showing anywhere and no electronic equipment to see.  It is totally slick.  We tested the speakers out last night and they are fab.  The TV is sitting in a box in the basement right now, and I suspect it will be in its home and working by the end of the weekend!
