Kevin received a call today from a woman named Spike Brown, who is in the "risk management" department at Chuck E Cheese. Spike told Kevin that she deals mainly with injuries that happen to kids at Chuck E Cheese. I don't think she is really the appropriate person to be dealing with this but alas. I can share more details of what she said with anyone who is interested, but basically she stood by their policy. She said the policy is "being reviewed" (since when, yesterday when the calls started?) but as of now they do not allow any food for any reason. She did apologize for the treatment we got from the staff in Bloomington-Normal and said she spoke to the assistant manager there but did not elaborate. The only compensation she offered was to refund the money we spent there yesterday, which is really not the point at all.
A few people who emailed Chuck E Cheese got the following "form letter" response: (multiple people got this exact same message)
Thank you for your email.CEC does have a policy that no other restaurant's food may be brought into Chuck E. Cheese's. However, our managers are encouraged to do everythingpossible so that every guest has a positive experience, including makingexceptions to rules when appropriate. That should have happened in this situation.
We will work to modify our external food policies to allow exceptions for guests with food allergies or on special diets.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Again we apologize.
Thank you for your time,
Chuck E. Cheese Guest Relations
I do not really feel that this situation is resolved because nothing has changed, I still think their policy is discriminatory and I still can't take John to Chuck E Cheese with his friends. I want to press for a policy exemption for kids like John who have literally nothing on the menu they can eat, aside from lettuce and vegetables on the salad bar (which was filled with cheese and creamy pasta salads, so everything is potentially cross-contaminated anyway). I am not sure exactly what to do next and would appreciate any advice. This Spike person doesn't really have any impact on the policies of C.E.C. and I would really like to talk to someone who is actually making decisions about this.
