Yes, I am sick. Again. This is the third time I have been sick in 6 weeks. I am sure this is no surprise to people who have known me for a long time. Whenever there is "something going around," I get it first, I get it hardest and I get it longest. It is not uncommon for colds, sinus infections, flu, etc. to last 3 or more weeks for me. In the past few years I have been very careful to take vitamins every day, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, exercise, etc. and generally take better care of myself than I did in college. I think it really has made a difference, when I am sick it's not quite as bad as it used to be, and I have been sick less than in the past. But seriously, if the bird flu ever comes to central Illinois I am so screwed.
This is one of the reasons I have been so adamant about continuing to nurse Ikey. My Boo and I have not had the easiest nursing relationship. (PS - Ginger found Boo things at Target!!) It has been a real struggle since day one. But I know that one of the biggest benefits of nursing is the immune system build-up the baby gets. I want him to keep getting this benefit as long as possible despite our hardships.
Most men and women my age didn't get this benefit from nursing, because our moms weren't encouraged to nurse. In fact the opposite, the belief then was that formula was superior to nursing. Even when John was born 6 1/2 years ago, there was no nursing support the way there is now. It was like, you're going to breastfeed? Great, good luck with that. At least there was a positive attitude about it but not much more. When Isaac was born, the lactation consultant came to my hospital room every day, the free breastfeeding clinic was down the hall, and I saw the breastfeeding specialist at Christie Clinic 4 different times in his first few weeks.
Of course that's not the only reason I get sick so badly and so often, but I do think it is a factor. Other people I know with self-proclaimed hippie moms who nursed them seem to get sick only about once per year. :)
Anyway, I am like "you should stay in bed all day" sick. I am supposed to take Isaac to a baby Kindermusik class this morning and I am trying to muster up the energy for it. He is sleeping right now and I want to lay down too. Of course I don't have the groceries I need to make dinner tonight, and there's wet laundry in the washing machine...sigh.

Poor Becky!! I'm sorry you are sick! Rest up, girlie.
(You're right about nursing, by the way. My brothers were, but not me. My mom had thrush with my older brother so they told her not to nurse me. I have quite a few allergies...)
Awww....we all got sick today too! Logan and Sylvie didn't sleep all night and were crying and having nightmares and night terrors. Sure enough, they woke up all stuffy and cranky. Colds it is. Pass the kleenex okay?
