Sleepy My Baby

Isaac had a very "wakey" afternoon today, as Kevin and I call it. I have never understood why babies fight sleep so much when they need it so badly. If someone gave me a bath, rubbed lotion all over me, wrapped me in a swaddle blanket, fed me warm milk and rocked me until I was asleep, I probably wouldn't wake up for 3 days. Seriously.

Today, he was laying in his co-sleeper, fussing with his eyes closed. He would fall asleep and then fight himself back awake to fuss one or two more times! He never did fall all the way asleep this afternoon, so I decided to take all 3 kids for a loooooong walk/bike ride, about 30 minutes one way, thinking he would absolutely be asleep after a few minutes. We walked the whole 30 minutes, stopped to get drinks, came halfway back, played at a park for 20 minutes, and then walked the rest of the way home. Of course, when we got home, he was STILL AWAKE! and fussing his adorable head off.

Of course I love being with Isaac no matter what and when he is awake, interested, playful and looking around he is the world's easiest and most fun baby. But when he is unhappy no matter what I do because of how exhausted he is, I can't really do anything else except try and get him to sleep. I can't play with John or Lucy, or do other things, because Isaac is so unhappy. Plus, sleep is the way babies grow! He needs it! So, I press on and try to figure out some way to help him get the rest he needs.

Thankfully he has always slept very well through the night...once he gives up that is! He goes from about 8:30 PM until about 5 AM. I can't complain about that at all. During the day, that's another story.
