Uppercase Living

I've been invited to an Uppercase Living party tomorrow. Have you guys heard of this? I hadn't. It's like these big sticky signs with words, pictures, phrases, etc. that you can design and put up around your house. I immediately thought of Lucy. I thought it would be fun if she and I went to the party together, and she got to design a little picture for her wall with her name on it and some flowers and things. I am always looking for little things that I can do with the kids individually to make them feel special. Lucy has been a little sensitive lately about being apart from me at preschool and I've felt that she needed a little Mommy-Lucy special time. So my friend's invitation came at just the right moment.
She is so excited. She is calling it our "date" and keeps telling me how she gets to go to the party with the moms, and that she is very big to be doing that. I get the sense that Lucy feels like she is being let in on a secret...what do the moms do when the kids aren't around? What does Mom do when she goes out with her friends? Now, she will KNOW. It makes me smile.
Once, Lucy and I went on a girls' weekend to St. Louis. Jenny and Sylvie took her to see a play of The Velveteen Rabbit, we went out to dinner and had a sleepover at Jenny's house. This was about 7 months ago. She still talks about it. Doing that with just her (no boys allowed!) made her feel so important.
We will see what Lucy designs for her room tomorrow! And...we'll see if I come home with something for John and Isaac's rooms too! (My prediction: Yes I will.)
