This morning my mom noticed that Lucy is letting me fix her hair now and she is right! Until about a month ago, Lucy did not like anything in her hair, even a barette. Last time she got her bangs cut, the stylist cut them waaaaaaaay too thick and too far back on top of her head, I swear Lucy looked like she had a mullet. It was awful. So now I am trying to grow out parts of her hair, keep some bangs short, etc. All summer it looked like a mess! I was so sad about it because Lucy's hair is so beautiful. Now it's evening out, and she looks so super cute with pigtails, a ponytail, two barettes, etc. She looks like such a big girl to me with her hair fixed. Her best buddy Katherine wears a braid in her hair, and Lucy really wants her hair braided too. This weekend my mom is coming to visit and I am hoping she will give the braid a try just for fun, because I don't really know how to do it.
I think that Lucy starting preschool helped a lot with this. I told her, it will make it easier to work and play at school if your hair is pulled back away from your face. I guess this made sense to her because all of the sudden she was OK with it. She has also been wearing her glasses every day consistently, and unbelievably, leaving the blanket of all blankets (WeeBee) at home in a basket by the back door every morning. She has been sucking her thumb quite a bit less lately, in fact she almost never does it unless she's anxious or falling asleep. I have been convinced all along, given Lucy's fiercely independent nature (as Martha calls it!), that she would do all these things in her own time. I am happy to see that it's true.
